Philip Roth to Charles McGrath
Three things he said in today's New York Times:
1. "At night I read. I read for two hours."
2. "I no longer have the stamina to endure the frustration. Writing is frustration — it's daily frustration, not to mention humiliation. It's just like baseball: you fail two-thirds of the time."
3. "The numbers don't mean anything. The books mean something."
